On Tues July 16th, an additional mailrelay machine will be put in
service. This is the first stage of a plan to improve the e-mail
delivery system, making it faster and more reliable, by adding newer
machines and replacing the current one.

If you are using a POP- or IMAP-based e-mail package (eg. Z-Mail for
Windows, Pine for Windows, Siren, Maildrop for Macintosh, etc.), it's
important that it be configured to correctly specify
"mailrelay.yorku.ca" as the SMTP server (sometimes called the mail
gateway). Specifying "mailrelay.yorku.ca" as your SMTP server/mail
gateway will allow us to add/change server hardware without
inconveniencing you. Anything other than "mailrelay.yorku.ca" will
prevent you from sending outgoing e-mail after the older server is
eventually taken out of service.

Please check with the CCS Help Desk or your local support people if
you are uncertain about the type of mail package you use or if you do
not know how to verify the SMTP server/mail gateway setting.
