I have been doing a little work on the month Twain spent in
Guildford Surrey (Aug 6 approx to Sept 10, 1896); obviously a very
significant period for this is when the news of Susy's death reached
him. While Livy was on the way back to the US, Twain stayed in
Guildford. There was obviously (see 'Love Letters') someone called
Mr. Smythe living at the house with him. Anyone got a clue who this
was?? Cheers
