Papers on the program for the upcoming History of Science Society meetings (Atlanta, 7-10 Nov) include: Ted Porter (UCLA), Instrumental Knowledge, or, Trusting No One: Life Insurers Resort to Measurement Mark Solovey (UWisconsin), NSF and the Effort to Create a National Social Science Foundation Journal of the History of the Behavorial Sciences 32.4 (Fall '96) will be a special issue on Durkheimian Sociology, including papers on Durkheim's legacy regarding Statistics, Human Nature, Sociology of Knowledge, and other themes central to economic thought or to writing its history.
