================= HES POSTING ======================== 1997 AUTUMN HISTORY OF ECONOMIC THOUGHT CONFERENCE ADVANCE NOTICE The Autumn 1997 History of Economic Thought Conference will be held at the University of Bristol, 3-5 September 1997. Put the dates in your diary. Conference sessions will be in Burwalls, a fine Victorian house in a rather special location on the edge of the Avon Gorge, beside Brunel's suspension bridge. For those unfamiliar with the geography of Britain, Bristol is about 100 miles west of London and is easy to reach by road, rail, or air. The cost looks like being a fair bit less than last year, which may be a first. There was a widespread belief at Durham that Bath had already been fixed as the 1997 venue - this turned out to be a misunderstanding. No one at Bath was in a position to run the conference in 1997. The good news is that Adrian Winnett at Bath will do it in 1998, the bicentenary of Malthus's Essay on Population - good timing in view of Malthus's links with the Bath area. Following our previous decisions (e.g. on the Marshall centenary) the 1998 conference will not be restricted to Malthus but will accept papers on the usual wide range of topics. I will issue a call for papers soon. Offers and enquiries should be directed to me, Tony Brewer, address below.
