SYNERGY ONLINE: Bulletins and News Briefs from The Canadian Society for International Health: [log in to unmask] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tribute to Norbert Prefontaine ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Norbert Prefontaine, a consultant dealing with indigenous health issues for the Canadian Society for International Health. Norbert, 69, died of a heart attack on December 28, 1996. A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 4th, 1996 in Hull, Quebec. In 1992, Norbert retired as Assistant Deputy Minister of the Intergovernmental and International Affairs Branch at Health and Welfare Canada. He began his career in the Federal civil service with the Centennial Commission. He also served in the Privy Council before joining Health and Welfare Canada. He helped organize the First Conference for Indigenous Health in North America, which led the Pan American Health Organization to pass a resolution integrating indigenous health among its activities. Norbert always had a strong interest in indigenous health issues and in community and non-governmental organizations.
