I was grateful for Wes Britton's stories about Pascal Covici. I just
wanted to add a personal note. Pascal was the first person I met at the
first Mark Twain Circle gathering at MLA that I attended. He made me feel
at home, and refused to let me leave without extracting my promise to get
more involved in the Circle. That first conversation set in motion a series
of activities and friendships that have meant a great deal to me in the
years since. I gather, from other comments on the Forum, that the warmth
and generosity I encountered at that first meeting were characteristic of
Pascal's behavior as a colleague.
He will, indeed, be missed.
