====================== HES POSTING ====================

A discussion of the Polanyi thesis that I have always found well-balanced
(that is, recognizing Polanyi's point while acknowledging its weaknesses)
is found in Fernand Braudel's _The Wheels of Commerce_ (vol. 2 of
_Civilization and Capitalism, 15th - 18th Centuries), at the end of part
2, "Markets and the Economy," in a section entitled "Locating the
Market."
