Beginning in 1984 with Volume 22, the volume number changes each year, rather than every second year, as in the past. The _Journal_ was founded by Cyril Clemens as the _Mark Twain Quarterly_, and continued under that title through Volume 9, Number 3 (Winter, 1953); it became the _Mark Twain Journal_ with Volume 9, Number 4 (Summer, 1954). There were four issues per volume through Volume 21, but Volume 7, Number 3/4 was a combined issue (the volume number was incorrectly printed as VIII). New subscribers may prefer to start with 1994 @ $18.00 ($20.00 foreign) and 1995 @ $18.00 ($20.00 foreign). The 1997 subscription rate will also be $18.00 ($20.00 foreign), but individuals may subscribe for $10.00 for one year, $18.00 for two years, $25.00 for three years, or $25.00 for four years. If they receive ten library orders, they will complete microforming back to the first issue (Fall 1936), making the complete _Mark Twain Quarterly_ and _Mark Twain Journal_ available in microform.
