Information Bulletin regarding Steacie Printing A print charging system using the Library photocopy card is being introduced for undergraduate students using printers in the Steacie Science building in early September. The charge is 9 cents per page and applies to printing from the Steacie labs, from home and from the central CCS UNIX email and Phoenix systems. CCS expects to have the system operational starting Monday, Sept. 8, 1997. The Steacie lab workstations, except for Glade, are set up to default to the print queue visible at both the T107B and 014 release stations. To print from Phoenix and email applications, and when printing from home, undergraduates must chose the print queue steacie_labs (eg. -p steacie_labs <filename>). The release stations are available during the following times: T107B Steacie (inside T107A MAC lab) 9:00am -10:00pm, Monday - Friday, 9:00am- 5:00pm, Saturday & Sunday 014 Steacie PC and MAC lab 24 hours, 7 days a week Undergraduate students using the Glade lab will print to the printers located right in the 021 lab. Printing from Windows 95 applications on Glade PCs is set up to default to these printers. If students are using the Glade lab for unix (Phoenix, email) printing they should chose the glade_lab queue (eg. -p glade_lab <filename>) to send their print job to the Glade printers. To release a file to the printer after using the print command in an application, students go to a print release station in either Glade or the 014 or T107 Steacie public labs, depending on which queue they used, and take the following steps: · click on their print job with the mouse, · click on the "Print" button at the bottom of the page, · insert their photocopy card into the card reader beside the release station, · click on "Accepted Print Job" button to print after reading the total number of pages and total cost of the job. The charge is 9 cents a page. A print job will stay in the release station queue for 2 hours, after which it is deleted from the queue. Once the job prints it will automatically be deleted. CCS will not issue refunds for printing. Students with complaints regarding print output should go to Help Services in T128 Steacie for possible re-printing. Undergraduate students can no longer print to the Oak and LASER1 queues. Faculty, staff and graduate students printing from Phoenix, the Steacie labs and email are now restricted to Oak queue, which is serviced by 3 HP cut-sheet laser printers. LASER1 (continuous form paper) is no longer available for any Phoenix and email printing. Collection of print jobs from the Oak queue by faculty, staff and graduate students will continue to be handled by Operations staff in 027 Steacie. The LASER1 queue will continue to be available for administrative printing, for other than email. -- Susan Spence Director, Computing & Communications Services York University 4700 Keele St., North York, Ontario Canada M3J 1P3 Phone: (416) 736-5593 Fax: (416) 736-5701
