====================== HES POSTING ==================

Rich's reference to Barber's work prompted me to recall that the winter
1997 Daedalus (American Academic Culture in Transformation:Fifty Years,
Four Disciplines) has three articles which MAY be of some use/interest
(RE: History of American economic thought). They are:

R.M. Solow, "How Did Economics Get That Way and What Way Did it Get?"

D. M. Kreps, "Economics--The Current Position"

W. J. Barber, "Reconfigurations in American Academic Economics: A
General Practitioners Perspective"

(BTW, the other disciplines discussed within this volume are
philosophy, literature and political science.)
