I was in Redding last week, and the Mark Twain Library received on March 12, 1998, an 18 acre piece of land known as Jean's Farm. Samuel Clemens sold this land to use the proceeds to build the building (the Jean L. Cemens Memorial building) that housed the original library. The family who donated the land owned it for about 50 years and used it for an artist's studio as well as a residence. The Family donated the rest of the property to the Redding Land Trust. I believe that Jean's Farm was part of the original 200 acres that was the Stormfield "estate". Barbara Taylor Cornell University Law Library
