I am posting this on behalf od Tom Okerberg.-- Kevin B. ~~~~~ From: "Thomas A. Okerberg" <[log in to unmask]> Subject: MLA - Hal Holbrook I was there at the meeting. The presentation was in the Mark Twain Suite at the Downtown Marriott. There were only 17 people in attendance, so it was intimate and special. Holbrook greeted and shook hands with everyone in attendance. He discussed his years of performing Mark Twain. It was originally three acts, now I believe only two. The first act was crammed full of jokes to interest those who had been dragged to something originally described as a "lecture". The video of his 1967 Mark Twain Tonight originally aired on CBS, I think, is going to be released soon. Holbrook was surprised when he reviewed it that it included alot of material on politics and civil rights. He is always searching Twain material to be contemporary. He recently added material involving impeachment, and lying and character of politicians. Twain thought he would be a good candidate since he would state beforehand that he had committed every transgression possible when he announced his candidacy. Holbrook currently has about six hours of material committed to memory. This is a flavor of the hour long meeting. I am sure Shelley Fisher Fishkin will give a better synopsis in the next Mark Twain Circular. This gathering was worth me traveling from Atlanta to see. Tao Okerberg
