================= HES POSTING ================= I think the type of influence is mainly addressed is that on non-economists (or at least non-specialists) circles, namely on the policy arena. It would be also valuable to discuss who were the most influential within the core and specialised economic circles. As far as the public policy is concerned the three names that came directly to my mind are those of Paul Samuelson, John Kenneth Galbraith and Milton Friedman. Besides their major contribution to the economic debate, especially in the second half of this century, they are quite representative of the diversity within economics. Moreover, they were able to cross the boundaries of economics audiences, participating regularly in generalist newspapers, magazines or Tv programs. This part made them the faces of certain types of economics. I hope this discussion will go on!
