Box 605 Waterloo, Ontario N2J 4B8 Please quote Job Code: 2221 Description of the Position: Manulife Financial's Corporate Archives is the official repository for records of the Manufacturer's Life Insurance Company, it's antecedent and amalgamated companies. As such it is the Archive's responsibility to collect, preserve and make available for research those records. Under the supervision of the Assistant Archivist, the Project Archivist will be primarily responsible for processing photographic holdings. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the physical handling/housing of photographs and negatives, identification of the images, description of the images according to RAD, and database maintenance. The Project Archivist will make recommendations for conservation measures related to the photographic collection. The Project Archivist will assist in other duties from time to time as required. This may include accessioning incoming records and reference/research duties in a timely and efficient manner. Skill Requirements: The ideal candidate has a knowledge of, and ability to apply Rules for Archival Description (RAD), a proven ability in the arrangement and description of Archival Records, and a proficient use of In Magic DB-Textworks and Microsoft software. The candidate has above average organizational skills for detail-oriented work, the ability to work independently, above average communication skills and the ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 35 pounds. The incumbent is familiar with the generally-accepted conservation and preservation practices, and has previous experience with processing photographic collections. Educational Requirements and Additional Information: The ideal candidate has a Master's Degree, MAS, MLS with specialization in Archival Studies, or equivalent educational and work experience. Two year's progressive experience working in an archives. Previous experience in a corporate/business archives environment, would be preferred. Knowledge of the financial industry in general and the insurance industry in particular would be an asset.
