I am pleased to post the following position on
behalf of the Archives Association of Ontario's Preservation
Committee:
PRESERVATION CONSULTANT
The Archives
Association of Ontario (AAO) is recruiting a Preservation
Consultant to work
in conjunction with the Archives Association of Ontario's
Archives Advisor to
deliver preservation guidance, advice, information and
expertise to archives
throughout Ontario.
This contract position will report to the AAO
Preservation Director /
Preservation Committee Chair. The consultant will
work a maximum of 1000
hours. The tasks to be undertaken by the
Preservation Consultant will
include but are not limited to the
following:
a. Conducting global preservation facility
assessments for
member archives.
b. Work with the
Preservation Committee to develop a five year
Preservation Strategic Plan for
the (AAO).
c. Working with the AAO Preservation Committee
to develop and
promote a preservation communication
strategy.
d. Production of articles on current
preservation issues for
publication in the AAO newsletter Off the Record and
on the AAO
web-site.
e. Serve as an exofficio member of
the AAO Preservation
Committee
Qualifications
The suitable
candidate will have graduated from a conservation program and
will have a
minimum of two years experience or will possess an equivalent
combination of
training and experience in a related heritage field.
Particular expertise in
archival preservation would be an asset. The
candidate must have the ability
to work independently and to travel
frequently within Ontario. The
candidate must also possess a valid driver's
license and have access to
his/her own vehicle. Computer, e-mail and fax
access are
essential. Strong computer skills and experience with the
internet
would be beneficial.
The candidate must have strong interpersonal
skills, effective oral and
written communications skills, excellent
observation and interpretative
skills, organizational and administrative
abilities along with the capacity
to use initiative and find creative
solutions to a wide range of potentially
challenging
situations.
Compensation for this contract position, is $28.00 per hour
plus justifiable
expenses. This is a six month contract subject to
assessment and renewal in
the following year.
