Now that the amendments to the Copyright Act are fully in force, the AAO's Professional Development Committee is pleased to announce the cycle of a two-day workshop on Copyright, commencing in Toronto, that will tour the Chapters thereby ensuring that all AAO members have a chance to refresh their knowledge on copyright. The first workshop is set for: November 27-28 Quality Inn Motel Midtown, Toronto, Ontario 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Further dates will be announced in the new year. The workshop provides an overview of the recently amended Canadian copyright law and an opportunity to apply the law while discussing six case studies. The first day is devoted to an intensive overview of how the Canadian copyright law works. Topic covered include: categories of works, ownership of copyright, term of copyright, economic and moral rights of copyright owners, exceptions, penalties for infringement, international copyright, and how to analyze a copyright problem. The second day allows participants to apply what they have learned as they discuss six case studies on the topics of: Photos, Unlocatable copyright owners, Term of copyright in unpublished works, Copyright in foreign records, Donor agreements, and Creating a website. Each case also raises a number of other copyright questions that come up every day in reading rooms across the country.
