        Below is a request that came to me from one
of our Canadian Studies faculty members. I would
like to suggest some locations which would be of use
in her research. Any recommendations?

I am looking at minorities, especially minority workers, during World War II.
As you know, a large proportion of the workers in the area were of minority
backgrounds (I include Europeans in this group). Anything related to this
topic
would be very useful for me. I was thinking in particular of employers'
attitudes, involvement of minority workers in strikes and unions and so on.
On the latter topic
I have found some material and probably will find more in the newspapers,
but I thought you might know additional sources. One of the things I am
trying to illuminate is how the members of these groups defined their role
vis a vis Canada when on the one hand they were being called upon to make
sacrifices for the war (which was being fought for democracy), but on the
other they still faced discrimination.
