Hello, all!
With a few kindred spirits, I am in the
process of organizing a new group, the Mark
Twain Circle of New York.
We are envisioning this as an informal
association, somewhere between a literary
society and a fan club, open to all. We
hope to create a new venue for Mark Twain
enthusiasts in the New York City area,
academic or otherwise, to get together in a
fairly ongoing way, and share their
interest in Twain's writings as well as his
life and times.
Plans are still tentative, but we expect to
start with an inaugural brunch on a
Saturday in May or June. If there is
sufficient interest and support, future
events could include literary discussions
and programs, guest lecturers, or tours to
regional points of interest such as the
Mark Twain Library in Redding, Conn., and
the Twain House in Hartford.
What we need at this point is to get a
sense of how much interest is out there.
If you would be interested in participating
-- or at least attending the planned brunch
meeting this Spring -- please let me know
by e-mail <[log in to unmask]> or phone
(212-242-5546).
Thanks –- and if you have NYC-area friends
who might be interested, please spread the
word!
Peter Salwen
