The Toronto Port Authority Archives -- Position for a Contract Archivist

This project is funded through the Young Canada Works in Heritage
Institutions Program.

10-Week Contract starting on May 29, 2000 (start date is negotiable). Pay
is $10.00 per hour plus requisite benefits for a seven-hour day.

Under the direction of the Records Manager/Archivist, the contract
archivist will be responsible for the transfer of approximately 75 boxes of
central registry files from inactive storage to our archival holdings. The
records cover such topics as waterfront planning, property management, and
relations with various levels of government. Duties include the physical
transfer of approximately 1,000 files to archival enclosures, the writing
of a RAD-compliant description for each file, and database management. The
TPA Archives places strong emphasis on subject analysis, and the contractor
will gain a lot of useful experience in this area of description.

The ideal candidate will have completed either one or two years of an
archival program at university or college level. Familiarity with RAD and
an interest in working with textual records are recommended. Experience in
working with computer databases is an asset, but training will be provided.
Must be willing and able to lift boxes up to 20 kgs.

Applicants should mail or fax a letter of application and resume by May 23,
2000 to: Michele Dale, Records Manager/Archivist, Toronto Port Authority,
60 Harbour Street, Toronto, ON M5J 1B7. The fax number is (416) 863-4830.

Please note that although we welcome all interested applicants only those
selected for an interview will be contacted.
