I also do not recall ever having come across the quoation about
fish-hooks
attrributed to Twain. I am assuming, by the way, that the quotation
itself is accurate and not cofused with another related quotation by
Twain:
"Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but
particularly, don't tell them where they know the fish."
This particular quotation is reprinted in Lou Budd's edition,
_Collected Tales, Sketches, Speeches, & Essays_ (Vol. 2) under "More
Maxims of Mark Twain." It is also listed by Ayres in _Wit and Wisdonm of
Mark Twain_, as well as in other collections of Twain's sayings.
But as for "fish-hooks"......
