CALL FOR PAPERS FOR THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION FOR EVOLUTIONARY
ECONOMICS
The next annual meeting of the Association for Evolutionary Economics will
be held in conjunction with meetings of the Allied Social Sciences
Association (ASSA) on January 7, 8, and 9, 2000 in Boston.
There will be no general theme for the meeting. However, I want
especially to encourage papers that utilize heterodox modes of analysis to
examine vital continuing and emerging economic developments and policy
issues. Among such "developments and issues" are: the accelerating
consolidation of the global industrial order; labor market consequences
of globalization; the continuing global financial crisis and the wake of
misery it is leaving behind; continuing "transition difficulties" in the
former Soviet Union and other Eastern European nations; the dangers of
(U.S,? world?) deflation; European (and global) adjustment to the Euro;
the growing health care crisis in the U.S.; "saving" social security; the
continuing fall out from welfare reform; and the unfolding consequences of
deregulation. These topic are only suggestive, and others will be given
equal consideration.
Since 2000 marks the fifty-year anniversary of K. William Kapp's
pioneering study, The Social Costs of Private Enterprise, I also invite
papers examining the degree to which, after fifty additional years, the
system of private enterprise--capitalism--has managed to ameliorate the
problems enumerated by Kapp.
Finally, as always, papers addressing fundamental issues concerning
institutional theory or methodology are also encouraged.
Proposals for complete panels (5 papers) on topics falling within these
categories will be given special consideration. Those who wish to propose
a complete panel should have each potential participant submit their own
abstract as detailed below. Please do not hesitate to contact me by email

questions in regard to developing a panel proposal.
Procedures for submitting proposals:
To propose a paper or a panel, please submit the following by email to
[log in to unmask] by no later than Friday, March 19, 1999.
Individual paper proposal:

the abstract within the body of the email message; do not send
it as an attachment)

Please remember that each participant must submit individually the
abstract of their own proposed paper to [log in to unmask] by March 19.
Format:
Papers that conform to the requirements specified below and are in final
written form at the time they are presented at the AFEE meetings in
January will be considered for publication in the proceedings issue of the
Journal of Economic Issues. The final decision on publication of
individual papers resides with the Editor of the JEI. To be considered,
papers must be limited to less that 2,750 words (about ten double-spaced
pages of text). In addition, there must be no more than two pages of
charts or tables, and no more than two pages of double-spaced endnotes.
The paper should be written in a style appropriate for printed
publication. Comments for oral delivery may be ad-libbed as necessary.

"Instructions for Authors" section contained in back issues of the JEI.
