POSITION TITLE: Archives Technician
APPOINTMENT TYPE: Contract (June 15/05-November 15/05)
CLASSIFICATION: Archives Technician PAY SCALE GROUP: 06N
DEPARTMENT: United Church of Canada/Victoria University Archives
HIRING RATE: $32,258 with annual step progression to maximum of $41,346

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Chief Archivist, and in accordance with
established policies and procedures:

    * answers basic reference inquiries, particularly genealogical;
    * serves in regular rotation of the Reference Desk ;
    * accessions incoming records; maintains the Archives Web-site;
    * retrieves and reshelves library and archival holdings;
    * maintains an inventory of archival supplies and equipment;
    * cleans audio-visual/reprographic equipment;
    * maintains biographical and church history vertical files
    * and performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications Required

A) Formal Education
Archives Technician diploma from an accredited community college
programme. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be
considered.

B) Experience
At least 2 years working experience in an archives.

C)Skill
Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite; ; knowledge of DB-TEXTWORKS
and other application software desirable; knowledge of HTML and Encoded
Archival Description desirable, ability to use equipment in the archives

D)Other
Basic knowledge of archival and records management principles and
practices; good oral and written communication skills; ability to learn
procedures and apply them to tasks assigned; ability to work quickly and
accurately with minimum daily supervision; willingness to accept
direction; willingness to perform work that may occasionally be tedious;
customer service oriented; ability to work well as part of a team.
