In the United States there has been a great deal on fall prevention. The
first place that is looked at is the home. Dr. Laura Gatlin from Thomas
Jefferson University in Philadelphia has done a great deal of research on
this topic. You can reach her at [log in to unmask] Also, , a
search on this topic I am sure will result in a great deal of information.

Those that specialize in this area are environmental access specialist.
Various professionals make up this group such as occupational therapist,
physical therapist, rehabilitation nurses, interior design professionals,
general contractors to name a few. There role is to go into the home of the
elderly or physically challenged and evaluate the home for safety and
function. Some things that are important to address/prevent falls would be
lighting, flooring, and medical issues that would cause the person to get up
at night to go to the bathroom. Most falls occur at night so for example if
a person is on a diuretic, than making sure they take the medication early,
can decrease night voiding.

Hope this helps.....good luck with your research.
