UMKC has a very strong program in the history of economic thought,
methodology,
and alternative paradigms in economics that draw heavily on the history of
economic thought, with theory and policy conducted in the context of the
history
of economic thought. Institutional Economics is part of the required core.
 A
number of our professors, including Fred Lee, Randy Wray, Jim Sturgeon,
Stephanie Bell, and Mat Forstater have published in the history of thought
and
methodology, and others are well-trained in various aspects of the subject
as
well. Distingushed Research Professor Jan Kregel is a tremendous resource
on
the history of economics and political economy as well.

Morteza Ardebili teaches courses on critical realism and hermeneutics,
Research
Associate Jim Webb is a frequent visitor lecturing on Dewey, postmodernism,
pragmatism and assorted topics, and current visitor Bill Williams is doing
work
related to Giffen Paradoxes and the like. Our visiting lecturer series in
the
last two years includes Jamie Galbraith, Edward Nell, Alain Parguez, Paul
Davidson, Robert Heilbroner, Marc Tool, Jim Peach, Gary Dymski. You can
expect
a similar all-star line-up in the years to come. Our visitors always
conduct a
seminar on the history of thought or methodology in addition to any public
lectures. That is standard policy. Our students are also keenly interested
in
the subject, so you will have many people to talk to. Contact Graduate
