The department of economics of the University of Amsterdam has a vacant 
chair (part-time) in History and Methodology of Economics. The appointment

The Department of General Economics of the Faculty of Economics and 
Econometrics of Amsterdam University has a vacancy for a 
 
FULL  PROFESSOR (half time) in the history and philosophy of economics 
 
Previous holders of this chair (professors Klant, De Marchi, Morgan and 
Blaug) have been well known and respected in the international academic 
community. The appointee will be expected to continue and enrich this 
Amsterdam tradition. Specific for this tradition is the combination in 
research of  the fields of the history and philosophy of economics. The new 
appointee will be expected to be active and expert in both sub-fields. 
 
Requirements: 
a PhD; significant publications in at least one of the two sub-fields; 
an international reputation as a specialist in at least one of the two 
sub-fields; 
ability and willingness to initiate and carry out research in both of these 
sub-fields resulting in publications in leading international journals or 
books; 
ability and willingness to supervise research and stimulate the research of 
others; 
didactic skills, and experience in teaching, preferably in at least one of 
the two sub-fields. 
Ability and willingness to work smoothly with others in the chair, the 
department and the faculty. 
 
An invitation to give a guest lecture may form part of the appointments 
procedure. 
 
In case the appointee is not familiar with the Dutch language, she/he is 
expected to have acquired an adequate knowledge of Dutch within two years. 
 
The appointment will be for five years in the first instance, with the 
possibility of reappointment till retirement age (subject to Dutch 
university regulations). The holder of the chair can be available half  
time each week, or full time for part of the year, or some combination of 
full time and part time equating on average to half  time, to be mutually 
agreed. 
 
Salary will be in accordance with Dutch civil service pay (scale 16). For a 
full time appointment this currently ranges from Dfl 9,324 (gross) to Dfl 
13,605 (gross) per month plus 8% holiday pay. The newly appointed professor 
will participate in an attractive pension scheme.
