MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTER FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
As you know, in July I launched Strengthening Aid Effectiveness: New
Approaches to Canada's International Assistance Program, a consultation
document designed to stimulate ideas and discussions on new and more
effective approaches to international development.
I am pleased that the document has generated much interest to date. The
participation of Canadians in discussions on world issues and Canada's
approach to international cooperation is paramount, and I am deeply
committed to receiving the input of as many Canadians as possible. I will
be chairing public consultation sessions across Canada, from September 4 to
14, and would be pleased to welcome you to a session in your region. I
would ask that you express your interest in participating by completing the
form at http://www.acdi-cida.gc.ca/aideffectiveness
<http://www.acdi-cida.gc.ca/aideffectiveness> . Information on the
consultation schedule and venues is provided at this site. I also encourage
comments and on-line discussions on Strengthening Aid Effectiveness: New
Approaches to Canada's International Assistance Program at the same site.
I anticipate a rich exchange of ideas on how to meet today's sustainable
development challenges, and I look forward to seeing you in September.

Public-private health partnerships can bring improved health says this
month's Bulletin of the World Health Organization. In order for these

EXPANSION OF ASIAN SEX TRADE THREATENS EFFORTS TO CONTROL REGION'S
AIDS EPIDEMIC, ACCORDING TO WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION
East Asia may so far have stemmed its AIDS epidemic through openness,
information and the widespread use of condoms, although new infections
are still rising in some countries, experts say. Yet, efforts to control
the region's AIDS epidemic are being threatened by Asia's rapidly
expanding and changing sex industry, especially in countries such
as Viet Nam and China. For full press release, please click here:
