Conference Announcement

The fourth biennial conference of the International Thorstein Veblen Association will be
held May 11-12, 2002 at the Graduate Faculty for Political and Social Science at the New
School University, 65 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York, co-hosted by Michael Hughey and
Arthur J. Vidich.

The purpose of the ITVA is:

to facilitate and revive, in a Veblenian spirit, a critical and historical attitude in the
social sciences;
to examine and evaluate Veblen's ideas and methods with respect to their applicability and
utility for comprehending and analyzing the contemporary world order;
to make explicit the attitudes, perspectives, and assumptions underlying Veblen's social,
economic, political, and religious frameworks;
to illuminate the relationship between Veblen's ideas and his linguistic, rhetorical, and
poetic style;
to foster and facilitate communication among Veblen scholars throughout the world.

Call for Papers. Papers for the conference should be sent to Prof. Michael Hughey. Submit
title and abstract by February 1, 2002. Deadline for paper submissions is March 1, 2002.
