EXPERTS EMPHASIZE CHALLENGES OF IMCI STRATEGY FOR HEALTHY CHILDREN

The expansion of the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI)
strategy, its integration with other elements of the public health system
and mobilization of resources to sustain its application are the main
challenges facing the countries of the Americas. These were the conclusions
of a group of experts who met to evaluate and expand this strategy, which
has proven effective in cutting childhood deaths and illnesses.

PAHO ONLINE BOOKSTORE CELEBRATION "A LIFE FREE OF VIOLENCE: IT'S OUR RIGHT"

Women activists have marked November 25 as a day against violence since
1981. The November date was chosen in commemoration of the brutal 1961
assassination of the three Mirabal sisters in the Dominican Republic.
"A life free of violence: it's our right" was chosen this year as the
slogan for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against
Women. Given the importance of violence as a social issue, the PAHO Online
Bookstore will be offering several publications related to violence against
women at a special price. This special offer is in effect from November 27
to December 14 and is valid only for online purchases. To take advantage,
visit the PAHO Online Bookstore http://publications.paho.org/english/new
