Louise,
You may be interested in a monograph published by the Prairie Region Health
Promotion Research Centre in Saskatoon, Canada. It is titled "Working
Upstream: Discovering Effective Practice Strategies for Community
Development in Health" and describes work by a Community Development Team
with examples from the work on determinants. It has a set of "Benchmarks
for Practitioners" which could be used as a framework for evaluating
practice in this area. You can order a hard copy from the PRHPRC at
http://www.usask.ca/healthsci/che/prhprc The authors are the CDTeam at
Saskatoon District Health and Ron Labonte. The other useful resource is
"Indicators to Help with Capacity Building in Health Promotion" by Penelope
Hawe et al. It is downloadable from the NSW website at
http://www.health.nsw.gov.au
Best wishes.

Subject: Action on the determinants of health

I am interested in exploring the experience of health promoters in working
on the fundemental determinants of health such as housing, unemployment,
transport, illiteracy, poverty and community capacity building. Do you have
information about the success factors for health sector work in this area?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Louise
