Two points of clarification regarding Thomas Leng's posting: 
 
a) Thomas Smith's work was written in 1549, but not published until 1581 
(so everyone is right!); and 
 
b) Lamond's edition was first published in 1893 and reprinted in 1954. 
Lamond's edition has fewer textual variants than Dewar's edition, which was 
first published in 1969.
