Haven't been able to follow the entire thread, but one book that might be mentioned
(though a little dated) is:
 
Radical political economy since the sixties: a sociology of knowledge analysis by Paul A.
Attewell. New Brunswick, N.J.: Rutgers University Press, c1984.
 
Also, would work such as that by Phil Mirowski fit here?  I'm thinking of More Heat than
Light, as well as his new book.
