In order to perform server software maintenance, there will be a
brief interruption in York's DNS and DHCP services between 8:00am
and 8:30am on Friday November 30.

The DNS servers are used by internet applications to convert host
names to network IP addresses. DHCP servers are used to assign
IP addresses to specific computers at York.

Users who have correctly configured their computers with the IP
addresses of the three York DNS servers will likely experience small
delays on all internet connections during the server outage. Users
who have configured their computers with only one DNS server will
likely suffer a complete outage on all internet connections.

DHCP users (ex: campus computer labs, residence network users,
Laptops@York users), may notice a delay of up to several minutes
getting an IP address from the DHCP servers during this outage. Any
machines turned on before the outage and assigned IP addresses by
the DHCP servers prior to the outage will not be affected.

ResNet Users should not be affected by this outage.

Information about York's DNS service including the IP addresses of
the DNS servers is available on the web at
http://www.yorku.ca/netops/dns.html

Questions or concerns about these outages, should be directed to
the CNS Helpdesk in the Steacie Science Library Building, (voice:
736-5800, email: [log in to unmask]).
