ADJUNCT ARCHIVIST

York University Libraries invite applications for the position of
Adjunct Archivist from June 1, 2002 to August 31, 2003. Responsibilities
include reference and research services in Archives and Special
Collections and the appraisal, accessioning, arrangement, description
and control of archival records.

York University is the third largest university in Canada serving a
population of approximately 50,000 students from diverse cultures. York
University Archives and Special Collections hold 690 metres of
university records; over 1900 metres of private and institutional papers
and an extensive collection of non-textual materials. Special
Collections has over 20,000 volumes of published Canadiana, including
Canadian pamphlets.

Qualifications

A graduate library science/information studies degree with archival
concentration accredited by the ALA, or a Masters degree in Archival
Studies, or a Masters degree in a related field with archival
concentration. Demonstrated experience in processing and providing
access to archival and special collections. Working knowledge of Rules
for Archival Description (RAD) and records/information management. An
understanding of copyright, privacy legislation and Encoded Archival
Description (EAD) is an asset. Effective oral and written communication
skills, ability to maintain effective working relationship with
University officers, colleagues and donors.
