City of Toronto Archives - Under Renovation
ù archives reading room at City Hall closes permanently: July 23rd
ù staff and archival records move to bigger / brighter / more
secure facility at 255 Spadina Road
ù renovations and temporary closure occur at 255 Spadina Road to
accommodate consolidated services
ù newly renovated City of Toronto Archives at Spadina location
reopens: August 3rd
The renovations and move will allow for the integration of the
rich historical holdings of the former City of Toronto Archives with
the already-substantial holdings of the former Metro Toronto archives
program in one location, at 255 Spadina Road. An on-line descriptive
database will be applied to the consolidated holdings, enhancing
electronic access to historical information relating to Toronto. The
state of the art environmental controls and fully-equipped
conservation lab at the Spadina facility will ensure the long term
preservation of the documentary heritage of this city.
