CALL FOR PAPERS

********************************************************
JUSTICE AND POVERTY: EXAMINING SEN'S CAPABILITY APPROACH
********************************************************

6-8 June 2001, Von Hügel Institute, St Edmund's College, University of
Cambridge

The Von Hügel Institute, St Edmund's College, invites researchers from
different disciplines to submit papers on Professor Amartya Sen's
Capability Approach. The general aim of the conference is to stimulate
further understanding of Sen's Capability Approach with emphasis on
poverty and justice. Contributors are encouraged, where possible, to
address issues of gender, HIV/AIDS, environment and education and to
discuss technical issues in operationalising the Capability
Approach. Empirical work on the poorest regions in the world would be
particularly welcome. The final day of the conference will be dedicated to
study group sessions and a plenary discussion session with Professor
Amartya Sen. The deadline for submission of paper proposals is 19 FEBRUARY
2001 and full papers will be due on 1 May 2001.

Paper proposals should include the title of the paper, a summary of no
more than 1000 words and postal and e-mail addresses. The proposal should
be sent to Dr Flavio Comim by e-mail
([log in to unmask]) or by post to St Edmund's College,
Mount Pleasant, Cambridge, CB3 0BN, UK. Notice of acceptance of papers
will be sent by 28 February 2001.
