John Parrish, Rise of Economics as an Academic Discipline: The Formative 
Years to 1900, Southern Economic Journal July 1967. 
 
According to Parrish the first Chair in "Political Economy" was at Harvard 
in 1871 followed quickly by Yale in 1872.  Dunbar was the occupant of the 
Harvard Chair, Francis A. Walker was at Yale.  By 1890 there were 20 Chairs 
in Political Economy.
