Although I don't recall a discussion of it anywhere, my understanding has always been that
he chose to title his treatise "An Inquiry Into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of
Nations" because it was primary intended to demonstrate the errors of the Merchantilist
concepts of both, and offer his in place of theirs.
