----------------- HES POSTING -----------------
Before there was JHET, there was the Bulletin . . .

The History of Economics Society is pleased to announced the creation of
the online archive of the Bulletin of the History of Economics Society:

http://eh.net/HE/HisEcSoc/bulletin/

The Bulletin was first published in 1979 and ran to eleven volumes (2
issues per year with the exception of volume 9, which only had one issue).
Karen Vaughn (1979-1984) and William Thweatt (1984-1989) served as editors.
The Journal of the History of Economic Thought, which was the Bulletin's
successor, began with volume 12 in 1990.

The online archive provides pdf files of all articles, announcements,
reports, abstracts, etc. published in each issue of the Bulletin. These
files can be read with Adobe Acrobat.

The Bulletin was not indexed, but includes a number of classic articles in
the history of economics, including many Presidential addresses to the
Society and Paul Samuelson's defense of Whig History (a topic which has
arisen frequently on the HES List). Each subscriber of the HES List could
assist the Society by mentioning the existence of the online archive to
their librarians or those who manage portals for the history of economics.

Finally, as we prepared the online archive, I was impressed at the extent
to which the HES List performs online many of the functions that the
earlier Bulletin did in print. There are numerous research inquiries, short
essays, humorous moments, etc. Different media, but the same goal: to
provide a forum for the community of historians of economics.
