This is only a rough guideline, but someone called Iona  
Tarrant at University of Hull did a PhD some years ago (she  
is now lecturing at Sheffield) on a comparison of Rousseau  
and Sen in relation to social welfare...'conflict between  
social welfare function and individual liberty', it says on  
the page (found by google on her name).
