Hi Greg-- 
 
Here I was referring to the huge literature (Pocock, Skinner, Wood among 
others ) on the  struggle for hegemony between a Lockean  liberalism and an 
older civic humanist liberalism or republicanism.  Are you saying that  
Pocock et. al. invented this difference between a liberalism based on  
rights and negative liberty and a liberalism based on  civic virtue  
and  positive liberty?
