CALL FOR PAPERS 
 
On May 7-10, 2003, the National Institute for Demographic Studies (Institute National
d'Etudes Demographiques), the Turgot Society (Societe des Amis de Turgot) and the
University of Caen will organize in Lantheuil Castle (Calvados, low Normandy) a Conference
devoted to the action, publications and influence of the father of French liberalism,
controller general A.-R.-J. Turgot (1727-1781).
 
The main themes of reflection will be as follows: 
1. Turgot, his personal trajectory, his environment 
2. The philosophical and religious foundations of his thought 
3. His contribution to economic analysis 
4. His political action and administrative practices 
5. Turgot and our world. Influence and modernity of his thought 
 
This conference will not only study the fundamental contribution made by Turgot to the
economic thought of the Enlightenment, but also measure what lessons can be drawn today
from his reflection and from his actions. Anyone interested in attending the conference
should contact the organizers. Scholars wishing to present a contribution (15 pages double
space) are invited to send an abstract to by March 31, 2002. Papers can be presented in
French or in English. Contributors will be notified on decisions of acceptance by April
30, 2002. The complete papers should be sent to the organizers by December 31, 2002.
