HES members and leaders will have to be more proactive rather than reactive to
this news. We've already lost considerable ground to a profession that thinks
its more important for students to know and do econometrics than to understand
the kinds of topics in which HES is interested. We need to work on each of
the problems confronting us--membership; citation; and the rest of the
profession. This will take volunteers and some strategic planning.
