Contract Archivist

Duties:
Applications are invited for a contract position in the archives of the
Guelph Public Library (GPL). The contract archivist will undertake two
description projects. For the first project, the contract archivist will
produce RAD compliant fonds, sous-fonds, and series level descriptions for
approximately 56 metres of textual records in the City of Guelph fonds. The
contract archivist will compile these descriptions into a finding aid and
link descriptions to existing file listings as appropriate. The second
project consists of revising, to RAD standards, archival descriptions for 25
private fonds. The contract archivist will migrate these new descriptions
into the GPL's descriptive database for contribution to Ontario's Archival
Information Network (ARCHEION). This contract will start September 3, 2002
and will run until December 19, 2002.

Qualifications
The GPL requires an individual with the following qualifications and
experience:
·       Graduate degree in archival studies, current enrolment in a graduate
level archival program, or equivalent experience
·       Demonstrated experience in applying RAD
·       Proficiency with Microsoft Word
Priority will be given to applicants that have:
·       Experience using Microsoft Access
·       Knowledge of Encoded Archival Description (EAD)

Salary and Benefits
$25.54/hour (salary includes mandatory benefits)
