The University of Toronto ACA Student Chapter in 
partnership with the Toronto Area Archivists Group (TAAG) are proud to 
present a speaking engagement with Anne Gilliland, Chair of UCLA 
Department of Information Studies.

The Archive in a Digital Age: Evolution, Engagement, and Empowerment 

Considerable discussion and research has focussed in recent years on 
the technological, preservation and access implications for archives 
of digital records and large-scale digitization of collections. 
However, there is still considerable room for a conversation about the 
conceptualization of the archive in light not only of developments 
such as Web 2.0, environments such as Second Life, changing modes of 
personal information creation and management, and a rapidly developing 
cyberinfrastructure, but also an increasingly plural and globalised 
society.  This presentation will contemplate not only technological, 
but also political and socio-cultural aspects of the archive, the 
profession and the record in an increasingly digital society.
