For the information of colleagues across Ontario and beyond, I am
pleased to announce that construction has begun on a long awaited new
archives building at The University of Western Ontario.  The Archives
and Research Collections Centre (ARCC) will provide central storage,
staff offices and work areas, and public consultation space for the
University Archives, the J. J. Talman Regional Collection, and the James
Alexander and Ellen Rea Benson Special Collections.  In addition, the
ARCC will contain low and medium use library research materials
transferred from the 6 libraries across campus.  When completed, this
building will address a long standing need for adequate archives
facilities and also provide additional space in the libraries in
anticipation of the arrival of the increased cohort next fall.
Construction of the ARCC is scheduled to be completed in the spring of
2003, with occupancy shortly thereafter.
