August's Web Events for National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month

1.   LIVE WEBCAST: Civic and Appointed Officials: Raising their Voices for
Recovery on August 7, 2002, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. EST
Please join Dennis Wholey of the PBS show "This is America with Dennis
Wholey" and author of The Courage to Change, as he hosts the "Civic and
Appointed Officials: Raising their Voices for Recovery" Webcast on August 7,
2002 at 3 p.m. EST. This live event will explore how civic and appointed
officials are making a difference by raising their voices in support of
recovery. The panel will feature: Hope Taft, First Lady of Ohio and Co-Chair
of Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free; Dr. Andrea Barthwell, Deputy
Director for Demand Reduction at the White House Office of National Drug
Control Policy; Bob Savage, Project Director for the Connecticut Community
for Addiction Recovery; Bob Dorsey, who is serving his fifth term on the
City Council in Rockville, MD; and Allison Colker, a Policy Associate with
the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Legal Action Center, a public interest law firm specializing in legal and
policy issues concerning substance abuse, AIDS, and the criminal justice
system on Wednesday, August 21, 2002 from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. EST.
This online discussion will answer questions like:
? What does it mean to be a recovery advocate?
? Who should stand up and be counted?
? Why is it more difficult for some people to become recovery advocates?
In addition, we will explore how individuals can make a difference by
raising their voices in support of recovery.
