[NOTE: Before I could even moderate the first of the responses -- this one 
by David Sarokin -- controversy appeared over attribution. David gives the 
standard line, which was repeated by a couple of others. But wait, Friedman 
is waiting in the wings! I will only post messages which add content to the

The Keynesian quote is usually attributed to Richard Nixon, as in this cite 
from a Time-Life profile of Keynes:
