====================== HES POSTING ===================
As would have say Jean Rostand, when being asked wether frogs belonged
to the insects family, I'm firstly iclined to answer that such a story
is approximately true, except that there was no "french parliament"
before 1789 (up to this time, "le parlement" was only the highest
courts) and no "socialist government" at all, and that in 1791, the very
year of reference to "left" and "right", there was no matter of
"capitalists" and "activists" (the revolution was driven by the
capitalist bourgeoisie). In the "Assemblee Legislative" of 1791,
succeeding to the "Assemblee Nationale Constituante", the "rightists"
(on the right of the assembly president gallery) were "physiocrates" who
were, thats'true, rather supporters of "laisser faire" (Dupont de
Nemours had belonged to them in the former instance, one year before).
As for the "leftists" (on the left of the gallery), they were just
"socialist" enough to vote a law (with the "rightists") baning not only
corporations, but unions too (Le Chapelier's Law).
Regards
Romain Kroes
