The same reason one contributes to any encyclopedia.  
If Wikipedia attracts an expert entry like yours on Malthus,  
we all profit.  (As free riders, of course.)  
  
In the meantime, you could as least add links to

That's not a description of the Wikipedia I know:  
flawed, as are other encyclopedias, but useful.
