Violet, Thomas (fl. 1634-1662).
A True Narrative of the Proceedings in the Court of Admiraltie
A goldsmith and alderman of London, Thomas Violet was imprisoned in 1634 for exporting
gold and silver from the realm. One of the conditions of his pardon was to seek out
similar offenders. In 1652 he became involved in prosecuting suits against the owners of
the vessels Sampson, Salvador, and George, and thereafter published this narrative, which
first appeared in 1656.
